Book Coaching

There’s a statistic that gets bandied around the writing community a lot: 97% of indie books that are started are never finished. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Why? Writers get started, they have a burst of creativity and then… well, then they get stuck or lost or lose motivation or don’t know where to turn. That’s where Positive Points come in.

Wherever you are on your journey and no matter how much time you have to dedicate to your work, Positive Points has a coaching package for you. All our coaching packages come with a free 30 to 60-minute chat.

Why Hire a Book Coach?

There are lots of reasons to hire a writing or book coach, and none of them involve a lack of skill or talent on your part. Think of a book coach as a personal trainer, there to encourage you, to cheer you on, to make sure you hit your deadlines, and to offer support and knowledge when you feel you need it. From the blank page right up to publication, I’ll be by your side as a book coach, offering you my unique skills and abilities to help you turn your idea into a finished, polished product that you’re happy with.

As a writer, sometimes what we get down on the page is not what we envisioned when we first came up with the idea. My job as a book coach is to help you turn your manuscript into what you thought it was going to be, what you want it to be. It’s not to change it to my liking, and it’s certainly not for me to put my ‘stamp’ on it. My job is to root out your initial concept and help you to bring it to life, whether you’re stuck on the first page, the fifth page, or the fiftieth page.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re at the beginning of your journey and full of so many ideas that you don’t know where to start, or whether you’re stuck in the middle and don’t know where to turn. Perhaps you can’t focus, you’re having a bad case of writer’s block, or you lack time and motivation. Maybe you’re keen to improve your knowledge and skills. Wherever you are on your journey, I’m here to help.

Brilliant Brainstorming - from £150

This package is perfect if you have the seed of an idea but aren’t quite sure where to take it. It’s also for authors who have a rough idea of what they want to write but aren’t quite sure how it all fits together. Brilliant Brainstorming and Awesome Outlining is exactly what the title suggests – we’ll bounce ideas around and develop your thoughts into a coherent outline that you can work from while writing your first draft. It includes:

  • One free initial session to discuss your needs and decide how best to proceed.
  • Four one-to-one sessions. They can be done in quick succession or over a longer period (maximum two months), depending on how you work and what you want to achieve between our sessions.
  • The development of ideas, plot, character, theme, narrative style, story structure, and so on.
  • Daily email or text support (via WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger).
  • Goal setting and accountability to help you stay on track, with help setting up a writing schedule that works for you.
  • 50% off any further one-to-one sessions, as and when required, for the lifetime of your project.

Fantastic First Draft – from £400

The first draft is often where all the magic happens, and it’s just as often where people find themselves stuck and unable to move forward. The Fantastic First Draft package varies according to length of your manuscript and the level of input you want. Whether you opt for the light or heavy package, you’ll get:

  • One free initial session to discuss your needs and decide how best to proceed.

  • 50% off any further one-to-one sessions, as and when required, for the lifetime of your project.

Fantastic First Draft (Light)

This is perfect for shorter manuscripts or authors who are looking for feedback and the occasional nudge in the right direction. You’ll get support for a year from the date of our first session, plus up to twenty one-to-one sessions.

One payment: £400 or three payments: £140

Fantastic First Draft (Heavy)

The heavy first draft package is more suited to those who want to write longer books, or for those who’d like more input. For the larger package, I like to work chapter-by-chapter, giving you feedback and guidance as you write. We’ll work together for a two-year period from the date of our first session, plus up to fifty one-to-one sessions.

One payment: £800 or three payments: £270

One-Offs

Just need a quick chat? We can have a 60 to 90-minute one-to-one session that includes:

  • Brainstorming and developing ideas.
  • Overcoming specific issues in your writing.
  • Overcoming writer’s block.
  • Crash courses in anything relevant (such as grammar, punctuation, certain writing techniques, and so on – contact me with your ideas and I’ll let you know whether it’s possible).
  • Anything else to do with your project.

Free Placements

Not all writers have that sort of money to spend, right? That’s why I give away a certain number of placements every year—completely free! Why? I really, really love what I do, and I want to share that love. I know how tough it can be as an indie author, having to do everything yourself. It’s hard work and it’s expensive, and I don’t believe writing and publishing a book should be something only for those wealthy enough to afford or lucky enough to know the right people. Of course, the spaces fill up quickly, so if you think you’re eligible, contact me to discuss your project and we’ll see where my next availability it.
