Eva Deverell

Eva Deverell is ‘the Lady Writer’, and her website is full of fantastic resources, including hundreds of worksheets, templates, and ideas. I’ve used many of her techniques when plotting my own novels.

The Food Timeline

The Food Timeline is exactly as the title suggests – a timeline of different foods. It’s especially useful for those writing historical fiction, making sure you get those details just right.

The Online Etymology Dictionary

The Online Etymology Dictionary shows you the origins of words and the dates of their first usage. Again, it’s useful for ensuring historical accuracy – but also, it’s super interesting!

Scrivener

Scrivener is writing software with a difference! Far from a simple word processor, Scrivener gives you all the tools to write your novel.

Writing Exercises

Writing Exercises is great for writing prompts and generators.

Grammar Girl

Stuck on grammar? Ask the Grammar Girl! This website has so many posts about different grammar issues.

Grammarly

If you can’t afford an editor, try Grammarly. It’s an AI, but it’s a reasonably accurate one. Just remember that it’s not always right, and sometimes you need a human eye to spot an error. If you use this or something like this, go through your manuscript closely afterwards.

Correct forms of address

When ghost-writing Regency romance, I found myself referencing this site often. It details the correct forms of address and the hierarchy of nobility titles.
